Cell Phone Wish List

Just read an article showing some enhancements that are planned for some cell phones, including an attachment providing big-screen resolution, built-in projector for movies (not interested), mobile video conferencing (I’d want that), biometric sensors (very important for some people, I’d want to be able to Turn Those Off)

The most important feature listed, for me, was being able to easily share information between my devices: start reading a file on the computer, transfer it to the phone. Listen to a podcast on the computer, pick up where I was, on my phone. Copy someone’s information from my email address book to my phone address book, without retyping it. Email my high-resolution picture from my phone to my computer (My current phone advertised how high the camera resolution is, then won’t let me email high-resolution pictures, and won’t let me copy them by USB!)

I would not want a phone that is a projector — during a presentation, I would want to be able to use my phone for texting, getting latest information, or even (dare I say it) making a phone call.

I want a phone to have good reception, good voice sound quality, play mp3 files through the headset (good voice quality, decent music quality). I don’t understand designing Bluetooth headsets so they won’t play audio stored on the phone, or designing phones to not play music through Bluetooth headsets, whichever way it (doesn’t) work.

I want to be able to easily transfer a phone number from my address book to the person I’m talking to.

I want a “do not disturb” feature, don’t make any sounds at all for the next __ hours. I wrote more about this at Cell Phone Do Not Disturb

I want cell phones to use standard plugs for USB transfer, battery charging, headset. What a waste to design, manufacture, sell incompatible cords! I am Much Less likely to buy a phone that makes me pay extra for special cords and chargers.

I would like to be able to read common document and ebook formats (txt, pdf, prc, OpenOffice).
